Newsletter III 09

Sended on: 10/23/2009

Dear friends,
Here is our quarterly newsletter: should you like to not receive it again, please reply with "remove" in the subject.

This is going to be a IT newsletter, with lots of links to websites! But first some interesting news.

Cave dining!
Stefano and Parashi discovered a huge cavern, where many decades ago the Maasai were hiding the cattle they were raiding from the Wakamba, on the other side of the Chyulu Hills. Stefano though it could be a great spot for a surprise bush dinner, and he was absolutely right! The cave is the hottest new activity we offer. We reach it with a gentle walk, from camp toward the Chyulu Hills. The lava tube, thats what it is, has a nice opening, which takes you gently underground. We set a bush fire under a huge opening in the ceiling; a table with candles is set next to it. The Maasai, probably still proud of their fathers raids, come and sing warrior songs. An unforgettable experience. Dont miss!

Wild Dogs!
Exciting: we have been spotting good packs of wild dogs in the last few weeks. A great and significant return on our conservation efforts.

Wild dogs: one of Lucas favorite spots of this year

Lucrezia and Pongo
Pongo is Kiswahili for bushbuck. Another male, beside her father, has fallen for Lucrezias charme.
See her here feeding her new friend.

Kanzi House

Kanzi House swimming pool cottage

Kanzi House had his maiden safari last August. With a swimming pool cottage, Kanzi House has room for 10 guests, in 5 bedrooms. It can be book only by one group at a time, for a minimum of 3 nights. We decreased the conservation fee from a flat $2,000 per day, to a $200 per person per day. These the new rates for the entire compound (Kanzi House and pool cottage):
Kanzi House 3 nights $20,500
Kanzi House extra night $ 6,650
Kanzi House 7 nights $44,500
Kanzi House 10 nights $62,500

Maasai Marathoners, ready to go

Parashi, Luca, Samson, Sunte: heading to New York in 48 hours

Months and months of training, miles and miles of running; fatigue, excitement, disappointment, fear, hope, energy. We all went through all of this. And now is time to go: we are leaving to New York this Tuesday. The marathon is on November 1st. Lets start with the suggested clicks: please look at www.maasaimarathon.com  Meet all the great runners who joined MWCT in our fund raising effort. Edward Norton, as President of MWCF, has led this incredible effort. See our videos, click our bios. Most important of all: be next to us in the New York marathon. Run the marathon virtually with us by simply clicking on http://www.maasaimarathon.com/content/sponsor/  and choose any of us for your sponsorship. Give what you can, even $20. It will boost our energy in the marathon.

What ever you can, it will be a lot for us. And spread the voice: join the more than 90,000 followers of Edwards twitter: http://twitter.com/edwardnorton  It is fun and funny, and you may join in the many contests Edward is offering, winning nice prizes, while supporting MWCT. Our wild dream is to have 100,000 supporters donating $20: wouldnt it be magical?

Please support us, we need it. You will help us carrying on our conservation efforts. Read just here below about another elephant we saved. We need your support to continue being present and protect the wilderness, the wildlife and the people of this beautiful and special corner of East Africa.

Another rescue
The sad news is that another elephant lost his mom. We do not know if he got lost like Chaimu (we told you about him in the last newsletter) or if his mom died. The good news is that our game scouts did another amazing rescue. We hope is the last of many years&

Learn about the rescue on MWCT blog: http://maasaitrust.wildlifedirect.org/2009/10/14/mwct-rescues-lost-young-elephant/
